Kara PidiKozhukkattai (Savory Steamed Dumplings)
Since Kundu Malli rice has a high starch content, it makes excellent, non-sticky steamed dumplings.

| Kundu Malli Idly Rice | 1 cup |
| Small Onions (Shallots) | 10 nos (chopped) |
| Grated Coconut | 1/4 cup |
| Mustard & Cumin Seeds | 1/2 tsp each |
| Chana Dal & Urad Dal | 1 tsp each |
| Ginger & Green Chillies | Finely chopped |

Rice Batter
Soak the rice for 3 hours and grind it with very little water into a smooth, thick paste.
Tempering
Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard, cumin, dals, ginger, chillies, and shallots. Sauté until onions are translucent.
Thickening
Pour the rice paste into the pan. Stir constantly on low heat. The paste will quickly thicken into a soft dough. Mix in the grated coconut and turn off the heat.
Steaming
Once the dough is warm, grease your hands and shape them into small cylindrical "pidis." Steam them in an idly cooker for 12–15 minutes.
